KCC has created a special flu response team which has met regularly since spring semester to make preparations for prevention of the spread of infection as well as planning how to respond to the disruption the flu may cause. Specifically, you should know the following.

  • You should wash your hands frequently to prevent spread of infection. The College has provided hand washing dispensers in bathrooms as well as sanitizing gel dispensers at the building entrances throughout the campus. Frequent hand washing and use of disinfecting gel is urged for all faculty, staff, and students.

  • Please cover your mouth when you cough.

  • When you work in a computer lab, clean your hands and the keypad and tabletops prior to using the computer. Cleaning Wipes will be provided for this purpose. Please use them.

  • In the classrooms, disinfectant spray bottles and paper towels will be available for students use to clean their desk areas prior to use.

  • We encourage you to carry your own germicidal wipes.

  • If you believe you have the flu, you SHOULD STAY HOME and notify your physician and your instructor. If you have the flu, you are contagious several days before you experience symptoms and remain contagious several days after you feel sick. This means you should stay home until you do not have a fever for more than 24 hours without taking any antifever medications.

  • If you come to school while you are ill, please do not feel offended about being questioned or when faculty/students following the six foot rule. Six feet is the presumed safe distance to prevent spread of the flu.

  • If you are a student, your instructors will work with you if you have to miss class because of the flu. Make sure your instructors know so they can work with you.

  • The College has assembled a team to handle ongoing questions regarding the flu. Should you have additional questions, please let your instructor know, and they can refer you to the team.

  • You may be sure that as we learn more, we will communicate with you as appropriate.

  • You are encouraged to get your flu vaccine early. See your primary physician. KCC has a Wellness Center; the Center will get a supply of vaccines and will let you know as soon as it is available. The Wellness Center may be reached at 245-8307.
  • If you get sick, CDC recommends that you stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.
